9th Grade Lit and Comp: Thursday, March 26, 2020

Good morning! Today you are going to continue working on your multi-genre project. At this point you should have the following in your Word Document:
  1. Cover Page
  2. Table of Contents
  3. Act I Symbol Page
  4. Genre Piece 1 - Newspaper
  5. Act II Symbol Page
  6. Genre Piece 2 - Journal/Diary Entry
  7. Act III Symbol Page
  8. Genre Piece 3 - Poem
Today,  focus on:
  • Act IV Symbol Page
  • Genre Piece 4 - Choice Genre 1
**Please note: I will not be doing progress checks everyday, but I have broken the project down into manageable pieces that you should be able to complete the day they are assigned. It is in your best interest to stay on top of the assigned work and not leave the entire project for last minute.**

Today's Genre Piece:

Choice Genres: You need to choose TWO of them for this project. You will be working on both of them today and tomorrow.

**Remember: Each genre piece must reference specific characters, events/scenes, and at least two quotes from Romeo and Juliet.**

  • Soundtrack: You're making a soundtrack of the play. You must choose four songs that you feel can be applied to four different scenes, whether it's through the events happening in the scene, and/or the characters in the scene. You must write a paragraph (4-6 complete sentences) for each song including the song's title and artist, a summary of the scene in which this song would fit, and an explanation of why how this song relates to the play, characters, and/or scene.

  • Eulogy: Choose a character who has died from Romeo and Juliet and eulogize them. A eulogy is a tribute to someone who has died by honoring or praising them. This should be from the point of view from a character who cared about the person who has died (for example: Romeo writing a eulogy for Mercutio). You will want to reference who the character was, their good qualities, what they meant to the character giving the eulogy, and how they will be missed. Remember to reference specific examples form Romeo and Juliet. Your eulogy must be 300-450 words long.

  • Letter: Write a letter from the point of view of a character in the play to another character in the play. Your letter should be written in 1st person point of view. You should start by saying, “Dear…” In this letter you must reference specific events and what is happening, along with referencing characters from the book. This should read like a friend writing to another friend, so it can be informal. Your letter must be 300-450 words long.

  • Character Map: Create a visual character map showing the important characters from the play. Include the following characters: Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet, Tybalt, Juliet, The Nurse, Lord Montague, Lady Montague, Romeo, Benvolio, Prince, Paris, Mercutio, and Friar Laurence. Each character should have a symbol or character drawing with description of who they are and their importance (2-3 sentences). Make sure characters are divided by family but also make sure you show how characters from both families are connected.

  • Dialogue: Create a text message dialogue between two characters in the play. Their dialogues should stay true to their character and should have them discussing an event/scene that is happening in the play. You may include text language as long as it is school appropriate. Your dialogue must be two full pages in length since dialogue should go back and forth and shouldn’t be very long. Think of how your text boxes look for your own text messages and let that be your model.

  • Editorial: An editorial is a piece of writing that expresses an opinion about a current event or issue. The purpose of an editorial is to persuade and point out the hypocrisy or benefits of a given issue. Write an editorial based off something that happens in the play (for example: the feud between the families, the suicides of Romeo and Juliet, etc.) and give your opinion about how this made you feel, why you agree/disagree with this topic. Show evidence and give examples to why you think a certain way, and why those who disagree with you are wrong. Your editorial must be 300-450 words long.

  • ABC’s of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet: Write the ABC’s of Romeo and Juliet. You must think of a word (either a character, theme, place, etc.) that begins with each letter of the alphabet, and provide some information about that word. Picture, quote, definition. For example: “R is for Romeo," a drawing of Romeo, a brief description (2-3 Sentences) and/or a memorable quote from him. You must have at least 24 letters (I’m allowing you to skip two letters in case you get stuck).
**Remember: Each genre piece must reference specific characters, events/scenes, and at least two quotes from Romeo and Juliet.**

What's Due Today:
  • Continue working on your Multi-Genre Project
    • Work on Genre Piece 4 - Choice Genre
