9th Grade Lit and Comp: Monday, March 23, 2020

Good morning! Welcome to week 2 of virtual learning! Over the next week and a half, we are going to work on wrapping up The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet with a Multi-Genre Project. Today, I will post the directions, schedule, and rubric for the project as well as the genre focus for today. Each day, I will post instructions for a new genre that you will be working on for the day.

**Please note: I will not be doing progress checks everyday, but I have broken the project down into manageable pieces that you should be able to complete the day they are assigned. It is in your best interest to stay on top of the assigned work and not leave the entire project for last minute.**

Instructions for the Multi-Genre Project:

How to Format Your Document and Explanation of Genre 1:

Today's Genre Piece:
  • Newspaper: Write a newspaper article about an event that occurred in the play. Your genre piece should look and read like a newspaper article. You should have a newspaper header (make up a name for your newspaper that is related to the play), a title for the article, and who the article is written by.

In this article, you should take on a journalistic tone. You should write in 3rd person objective (do not take the side of either of the feuding families); you’re telling the public about an incident that has happened in the play. You may pick any event from any act or scene in the play. The article should be between 300-450 words and formatted into two columns to better achieve the newspaper feel. Remember you are referencing events/a scene from the play. You want to include quotes, which the “reporter” received from people at the scene.

**Remember: Each genre piece must reference specific characters, events/scenes, and at least two quotes from Romeo and Juliet.**
