Good morning! We're going to use today as a catch-up day for everyone to get back on the same page (pun intended!) with the play. Please make sure that you are keeping up with your green packets as they will be due when we return. Tomorrow and Friday, we will be having an online discussion.
Many of you have a copy of the graphic novel at home, but if you do not, here is a PDF of the play (read the "Modern Text" on the odd numbered pages).
Romeo and Juliet Meme of the Day:
Fun Shakespeare Fact!
Widespread disease like the plague had a big influence on Shakespeare's writing. You might have noticed in Act III that Mercutio "wishes a plague" on the Houses of Montague and Capulet and that in Act V, Friar John wasn't able to get the letter to Romeo in time because he was quarantined in order to stop the spread of the disease. Both of these events, though relatively minor in the scenes where they occur, impact the play in pretty significant ways. Here is an article about how the plague influenced Shakespeare (no, you are not required to read it if you don't want to).
- Catch-up on reading Romeo and Juliet
- You should have read the entire play by the end of today.
- Finish working on Graphic Organizer
- Make sure you have a picture, a quote, and a 2-3 sentence summary for EVERY scene.
- Go back and work on the front page of your packet. Complete the character chart, draw a symbol that represents the overall idea of the play (not a heart or tombstone please!), and then answer the question about foils.
What's Due Today?
- Submit Act IV "Exit Ticket" Form (from Monday)
- Submit Act V "Exit Ticket" Form (from Tuesday)
- These are the questions that are at the end of Acts IV and V on your graphic organizer. If you submit the form, you do not need to fill them out in your green packet. :)
